For Financial Advisors

A Long-Term Initiative

The American Estate Planning Series is developing educational resources designed to help financial advisors introduce estate planning to clients before they meet with an estate planning attorney.

We believe families make better estate planning decisions when consumers, financial advisors, and estate planning attorneys begin with the same educational foundation.

Why This Matters

Financial advisors are often among the first professionals to recognize when a client needs an estate plan. Yet many clients delay taking action simply because they don't know where to begin.

Clients preparing for retirement, welcoming a child or grandchild, selling a business, receiving an inheritance, or updating beneficiary designations frequently need estate planning guidance as well.

Unfortunately, many clients postpone taking action because they don't understand the process, the terminology, or the importance of planning.

We believe education should begin before the attorney-client relationship begins.

That is why one of the long-term goals of the American Estate Planning Series is to become a trusted educational resource that financial advisors can confidently share with clients.

Our goal is not to replace the relationship between financial advisors and estate planning attorneys. Our goal is to strengthen that relationship by providing both professionals with a shared educational foundation that helps clients make more informed estate planning decisions.

The Long-Term Vision

We believe the best estate planning outcomes occur when consumers, financial advisors, and estate planning attorneys are working from the same educational foundation.

By helping clients learn first, advisors and attorneys can spend less time explaining basic concepts and more time helping families make thoughtful planning decisions.
